Metabolism-Linked Epigenetics in Stem Cells

Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) undergo coordinated epigenetic and metabolic changes to differentiate properly. Transcription factors and epigenetic modifiers control the transcriptional variability for ESC lineage commitment.
Epigenetic modifiers have been known to utilize the metabolites such as acetyl-CoA, SAM, alpha-ketoglutarate, which means that epigenetic modifications are deeply correlated with cellular metabolism. We have tried to understand how metabolism (or metabolic enzymes) affect(s) the epigenetic states in stem cells for proper differentiation.
In this talk, we discuss how two metabolic enzymes (Ctbp2, Psat1) connect the epigenetic and transcriptional program for ESCs to be differentiated.
