T 세포는 신체의 가장 강력한 면역 세포로 알려져 있으나, 삶의 대부분 활성이 억제된 ‘휴지 상태 (quiescence)’를 유지하여 과도한 면역반응을 일으키지 않습니다. 이처럼 T 세포의 휴지 기전 (T cell quiescence)은 면역 체계를 정교하게 운용하기 위해 진화적으로 보존된 핵심적인 현상으로 여겨지지만, 아직까지 많은 부분이 미지의 영역으로 남아있습니다.

본 연구실에서는 T 세포의 기능 및 원리를 ‘휴지기’의 관점에서 재해석하는 혁신적인 연구를 선도하고자 합니다. 이를 위해 면역학, 분자생물학, 세포생물학, 생물정보학 등 다양한 최신 연구기법을 이용하여 다면체적인 연구를 수행할 것입니다. 최종적으로 T 
세포 작동의 새로운 법칙과 체계를 구축하고 이를 다양한 면역질환과 암치료에 응용하여 인류의 건강 증진에 기여하고자 합니다.
