The mammalian host accommodates trillions of bacteria, many of which provide beneficial effects to the host, including protection from pathogenic microorganisms and essential metabolites. It has been shown that the gut microbiome regulates differentiation and function of immune cells, which are critical for symbiotic relationship and host health. My research aims at understanding reciprocal interactions between the microbiome and the host immune system to establish symbiosis and homeostasis. To achieve this goal, I focus on:
1. Impact of the microbiome on the development of host immune system
2. Roles of innate/adaptive immune system in maintaining symbiosis between the microbiome and hosts.
3. Elucidation of symbiotic bacteria and their genes involved in host health and disease
