Job Related Information

Position/Title (Currently Vacant)
Deputy Head, Lab 2 and Plant Operations
The successful applicant will report to the CEO and two program directors.

Job scope
• Calibration, enhancement, operation, and maintenance of GMP and non-GMP bioprocesses (microbial) and bioprocess equipment, including bioreactors, at the plant.
• Adherence and implementation of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards protocols in lab and facility operations.
• Quality Assurance and Quality Control Monitoring.

Skill requirements
• Deep knowledge with operating microbial bioreactor and fermenter systems (Single-Use and others), including downstream process systems.
• Be well versed (for the purpose of a technical comparison) with the different types and systems of microbial bioreactors, bioreactor control systems, sensors, their strengths, and weaknesses. For example, it is also necessary to understand (at least theoretically) how the impeller design and location, or the inclusion and specific locations of spargers may affect the processing.
• Be already familiar with, or be able to quickly learn the relevant aspects of applicable software such as Unicorn 7.0, Dynochem Biologics, BioPAT Process Insights, Ambr Clone Selection and BioLector XT.
• Be well versed and familiar with the various processes involved in the large-scale culturing of bacteria including the downstream processes. For example, the candidate should have knowledge about the various filtration (purification) mediums, materials, and techniques (vs cost efficiency) that are available.
• Have at least basic knowledge in the setting up of laboratories for microbial work.
• Have a good understanding of lab safety protocols – BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories.
• Have good knowledge with the use and operation of various lab equipment in relation to microbial work.

Skills that are good to have (Not a requirement)
• Basic knowledge of the various facets of GLP and GMP standards requirements in relation to laboratory and the manufacturing of biological agents would be an advantage.
• Basic relevant programming knowledge, such as the programming of a control unit for bioreactors with an Arduino microcontroller.

Education Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree with a major in biology, medicine, microbiology, life sciences, bioengineering, biotechnology, biosciences, or other similar fields.
• Postgraduate degree in medicine, engineering, biology, bioinformatics, microbiology, bioengineering, biotechnology, biosciences, or other similar fields.
• A Ph.D. relating to a relevant area of microbiology is not a requirement but will be preferred.

Language Requirements
Fluent in both written and spoken English and one other language.

Other requirements
• The candidate will be based in Singapore.
• The candidate will be required to travel from time to time for work
